TACK LOCAL
Brand Powered Event Display

2014

One of my local Seattle based clients TackLocal.com participated in the 2014 Seattle Interactive Conference with a presentation booth where they announced their new digital product. They approached me with a request for an artistic, fun and educational display which would spice up their booth environment and help to start conversations. I conceptualized a three-part creative solution which was brand consistent and with an emphasis on "local". The display package was a big success, helping to build visitor engagement through a fun and very unique presentation.

Conceptualization

At project start I met with the Tack Local lead team to get their feedback about general creative direction and concepts. To determine model scale and placement I studied event floor plans and booth layout. Once the general direction was set I began to collect inspiration and create concept sketches.

Concept sketches and mood-board for the showcase model which would be the main centerpiece at the Tack booth.
Picture
Concept sketches and mood-board for the miniature models to scatter around the Tack booth. These would help to energize the environment while helping to start conversations about the product.
Picture
Concept sketches and mood-board for the takeaway flyers with papercraft templates of the miniature model. These would provide information about the product through a fun hands-on craft activity which visitors could complete at or outside the event.

Production

Showcase model templates were printed using a large-format printer.

Large templates were mounted to sheets of chipboard and cut out.

Lots of paper scraps to recycle.

Other materials used were corrugated cardboard and colored construction paper.
Picture
Colored construction paper applied to the large arrow. I wanted to keep this entire model 100% paper, including the coloring.
Picture
Blood, sweat and tears went into making this project. Accidents happen. Good thing the red didn't get on the green...

Beginning to mount buildings to the foundation. Miniature Seattle is taking shape nicely!

I used my Silhouette Cameo plotters to cut the typography.

This would have taken a long time to cut by hand. Luckily, with the right tools, I didn't have to.
Picture
I saved and used the typography stencils as a guide when placing letters on the showcase model.

Typography details, nice clean cutouts.

I cut the Tack logo by hand using corrugated cardboard. Fortunately no blood this time.

I also used my Cameo plotters to cut the miniature models, then assembled the entire set.
